Rams’ Sean McVay Speaks Out About Team’s QB Situation
Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Rams currently have Matthew Stafford at quarterback, but that doesn’t mean head coach Sean McVay isn’t thinking about the future under center.

When asked about possibly taking a quarterback in the NFL Draft this week, McVay said that it’s something the club may consider, even though the Rams took Stetson Bennett last spring.

“I think you leave all options on the table,” McVay said, via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “Stetson’s been here. We’re in phase one. It’s been just meetings and then lifting so our ability to get out on the field with the players hasn’t existed yet. That’s the thing that’s the most fun. But he’s done a great job of being engaged in the meetings. … I mean, he looks good. He’s had a good look in his eyes. He’s been attentive in the meetings and then I’m looking forward to next week to being able to get out on the grass with all of our players and Stetson being one of them.”

Bennett, who played his collegiate football at the University of Georgia, was selected by Los Angeles in the fourth round of the draft last year.

He didn’t actually get on the field for the Rams in 2023, and whether or not LA actually views him as a potential quarterback of the future remains to be seen.

In an incredibly deep quarterback draft, it would certainly make sense for Los Angeles to take a signal-caller if it isn’t entirely confident in Bennett moving forward.

Of course, the Rams don’t seem likely to pick a quarterback in the first round, but if they select one in the second or third round, it wouldn’t be shocking—especially considering they own two third-rounders.

After all, Stafford is 36 years old and has certainly shown signs of a decline over the past couple of years, both from a health and a performance perspective.

We’ll see what Sean McVay and Co. decide to do this week.
