Do the Vancouver Canucks have enough offense to power through the playoffs?
Bob Frid-USA TODAY Sports

One of the surprises of the 2023-24 NHL regular season has been the success of the Vancouver Canucks, who went from a below .500 squad last year to one of the best teams in the league. Now with 10 games to go, the Canucks are 45-19-8 with 98 points, first in the Pacific Division by an eight-point margin.

But will it be enough to make a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs? J.T. Miller, Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes and Brock Boesner have combined for 324 total points, with all but Hughes hitting the 30-goal mark — to his credit, Hughes has 68 assists.

However, after those four, the next highest is Filip Hronek with 45 points, then there’s a big dip in production with no other player having more than 36 points. Do they have enough depth to power through to the Stanley Cup Final?

On Thursday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk are joined by Canucks Army senior writer Jeff Paterson to discuss Vancouver’s lack of depth up front and how they stack up to other giants in the Western Conference.

Jeff Paterson: Since the All-Star break, the Canucks are 25th in goals scored.

Frank Seravalli: That’s what I was going to ask you. Defensive structure is great, but what is your level of concern for a team that’s struggled to score like the Canucks have in the last two months?

Jeff Paterson: It’s kinda funny that this is the topic in Vancouver. They had six guys in the All-Star Game, but maybe the downfall of this team is their offense. The other night against the Los Angeles Kings, they were down 3-1 going into the third period, then they had one shot in the first 15 minutes of the final frame.

Right now, this is a team that even before the addition of Elias Lindholm, this team was a winger short. With injuries, now they have Phil Di Giuseppe on a line with Miller, someone who has five goals all season.
