The recently concluded 2024 Pokemon Europe International Championships (EUIC) in London, England, saw the best of the Pokemon competitive scene from all fronts – TCG, VGC, Go, and UNITE – all in one place. Here are the results of the tournament.

Tord Reklve, Gabriel Fernandez, and Yohann Cote bring home Pokemon TCG Trophies

Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) crowned new champions in its three Age Divisions in the form of Tord Reklev for the Masters Division, Gabriel Fernandez for the Seniors Division, and Yohann Cote for the Juniors Division.

Reklev of Norway won against Isaiah Brander of the United States in the Finals, beating Brander and overcoming over two thousand participants in the Division with his Charizard EX deck. His deck was hailed as the #1 deck in the Power Rankings in the official list published by the Pokemon website, so it’s no surprise that his deck won in the end for his 5th IC title. It appears that Reklev knew what he was talking about in that article.

Meanwhile, Brazil’s Gabriel Fernandez from the Seniors Division beat Benny Billinger of Canada with his Ancient Box deck. The 2023 Worlds Champion showed up in this tournament, gearing up for yet another impressive run this year. With his back-to-back IC Seniors championship, Fernandez is on to a great start this year!

And finally, the future of the Pokemon TCG competitive scene was showcased in the event itself, with Toronto Regional Champion and 2023 EUIC Top 4 Yohann Cote defeating Peter Shapkin with his Hisuian Goodra VSTAR deck. Cote’s game started slow, but he was able to make a quick comeback that resulted in the fastest Finals match for this tournament.

MEweedle sweeps the Pokemon Go Finals

2022 Pokémon Go world champion Maxwell “MEweedle” Ember claims the 2024 EUIC crown after an impressive 3-0 performance in the grand finals against Alexander Doone. His championship team consisted of Altaria, Lanturn, Skeledirge, Shadow Alolan Sandslash, Vigoroth, and Cresselia.

In spite of coming up short, Doone still has an impressive year so far with his championship streak in the Knoxville and San Antonio regional championships and his Sacramento Top 4 finish.

Nils Dunlop, Benjamin Polster, and Kevin Han nix Pokemon VGC crowns

The three winners for Pokémon VGC are none other than Nils Dunlop for the Masters Division, Benjamin Polster for the Seniors Division, and Kevin Han for the Juniors Division.

Sweden’s Nils Dunlop secures his first IC championship against Tim Edwards, an up-and-comer from the US who just emerged in the competitive scene last year. In all three rounds, Dunlop’s Incineroar figured heavily as his team’s main muscle, which was composed of Rapid Strike Style Urshifu, Porygon2, Amoonguss, Ursaluna, and Flutter Mane.

In the Seniors Finals, Benjamin Polster emerged victorious over 2019 EUIC Juniors Champion Teddy French. Polster is starting to gain momentum as he showed a promising rookie year this year. Polster had an interesting lineup that sported a Rocky Helmet Primarina leading a team that also included Rillaboom, Raging Bolt, Iron Jugulis, Incineroar, and Ogerpon.

And finally, in the Pokemon VG Juniors Finals, Kevin Han defeated Ismael Hoggui, marking his first IC Top 1 finish. The 6-time Regional Champion beat the up-and-comer. His team consisted of a typical lineup with Urshifu, Farigiraf, Flutter Mane, Incineroar, Ogerpon, and Ursaluna.

Peru takes over Europe in Pokemon UNITE at EUIC

Peru’s FUSION was crowned as the champion of the Pokemon UNITE Championship Series 2024 – Aeos Cup after defeating Japan’s Kabichans. FUSION started the series strong with a 2-0 lead before Kabichans staged a comeback to win Game 3. Game 4 also was mostly in the hands of Kabichans, but a late-game comeback by FUSION allowed them to secure an IC win for the first time in their careers.

This feat comes extra impressive knowing that this version of FUSION only came together in February, with Erick Jean “Zynuz” Bartolo Cotrina, Axel Xavier “Khea” Rivas Pérez, Jose “Anemo” Arias, Jeremy Wilman “Tempo” Rivas Nunura, and Jesús “Draken” Vásquez Antaccasa winning every single championship they’ve been in since.

Players Nab Pokemon Worlds Championship Points in EUIC

As part of the Pokemon Championship 2024 season, winners of the EUIC not only won cash prizes but were also awarded Championship Points. Some winners from this competition locked in their invitation to the Worlds Championship in Hawaii this August.

With the Latin America International Championship done and dusted back in November 2023, players still have two more ICs to compete in to try to secure more Championship Points this season.

The next tournament to watch out for after this would be the Japan Championships in the first week of June, which will be followed closely by the North America IC just a few days after.
